Subtractor.

An ongoing investigation into image reduction.

Working through removal rather than addition, Subtractor explores how figures, architecture and landscape change as information is progressively erased, interrupted and reconstructed.

Using distortion, masking, grids, compression, analogue transfer and digital interference, images are reduced towards their essential structures.

Rather than treating degradation as damage, the process considers subtraction as a generative act.

Each intervention asks what remains when visual certainty begins to disappear.

Some images become studies.

Others become source material for drawing, printmaking, screen printing, gel plate transfer and moving image.

Subtractor operates as an experimental field within the wider Silent Running practice, investigating absence, memory, compression and the resilience of visual form.
